About EC Department
The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering at IIST is committed towards providing quality education in its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Bachelor programme (BE) in Electronics & Communication Engineering started in 2003. PG programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering started in 2008 with specialization in Digital Communication. The Department has highly qualified and competent faculty members in the areas of Digital Signal Processing, Analog and digital electronics, Embedded systems, Data Communications & Networking, Mobile and Wireless communications, High Speed Networks, Optical Networks and VLSI.
Course Objective:
The main objective of the ECE Department is to provide education for those students who are able to compete internationally, able to produce creative solutions to the society's needs, conscious to the universal moral values, adherent to the professional ethical code, and to generate and disseminate knowledge and technologies essential to the local and global needs in the field of electronics and communication engineering.
The vision of the ECE Department is to become a nationally and internationally leading institution of higher learning, building upon the culture and the values of universal science and contemporary education, and a center of research and education generating the knowledge and the technologies which lay the groundwork in shaping the future in the fields of electronics and communication engineering.
- Encourage the students to develop in their respective fields & learn more on the basis of research & practical assignments.
- Facilitate them to lay greater emphasis on anticipating & predicating the sound future through honing technical & interpersonal skills.
- Train them to result oriented & promising by being good on both logic creations as well as its successful implementation.
- Develop people skills, leadership qualities & team orientations.
- Enable them to develop a global perspective.
The Program
- Electronics and Communication engineering is an emerging area which includes mobile phones to fiber optics and remote sensing. With technology becoming all pervasive, opportunities in electronics are enormous.
- This highly popular program trains students in broad areas of Micro electronics, Embedded Systems, Communication Engineering / Networking, Digital Signal Processing, Fiber Optics and Medical Electronics.
- Electronic Communication Engineering is under constant flux, finding applications in all human endeavors.
- The focus in the study programme is on understanding electronic networks and devices, electromagnetic field theory, computer fundamentals, as also their protection, and communication
and control systems.
- Design, fabricate, maintain, supervise, and manufacture electronic equipments used in the entertainment media, in hospitals, in the computer industry for communication and in defense. Electronics engineers work with devices that use extremely small amounts of power. They work with microprocessors, fibre optics in telecommunication, television, and radio fields.
- The program is challenging, the curriculum is rigorous & the selection procedure is highly competitive. As a result, IIST seeks candidates whose abilities, skills & personality indicate strong potential for success in the future.
The Program Design
Spread over eight semesters in four years the program comprises of 80 courses…
- 37 compulsory courses
- 9 elective courses
- 31 laboratory courses
- One minor project
- One industrial training
- One major project
Offering students the opportunity for specialization in the field of Electronics & Communication.
Teaching Pedagogy
The teacher’s professional duties extend beyond formal teaching. Outside the classroom teachers accompany students on field trips, supervise study halls and serve as supervisors for extracurricular activities. Increasing use of technology, specifically the increase in the Internet usage has begun to shape the way teachers approach their roles in the classroom. It also involves using differentiated instructions as well as supervision to meet the needs of all students in the classroom. Teaching aids including computer, projectors etc.that are used for effective class conduction
